Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Ukraine, the Indian Foreign Ministry said today, quoted by Reuters, writes BTA.
This will be the Indian leader’s first visit to Ukraine since Russian forces invaded Ukrainian territory in 2022. It will take place about a month after Modi meets Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.
Details of Modi’s visit to Ukraine will be released later in the day, the Indian ministry said.
Indian media reported that Modi is likely to visit Kiev this month.
Western countries imposed sanctions on Moscow over its invasion of Ukraine in 2022, but countries such as India and China continued to trade with Russia.
India refrained from directly condemning Russia for its actions in Ukraine and urged Moscow and Kiev to resolve the conflict between them through dialogue and diplomacy.
The US has raised concerns about India-Russia relations, particularly amid Washington’s attempts to strengthen ties with Delhi as a potential counterweight to China’s growing influence.
Delhi is deepening its ties with the West, while at the same time preserving relations with Russia.
