Prime Minister Narendra Modi has telephoned Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the safe evacuation of Indian students stranded in Ukraine as Russia has been continuing its offensive against Ukraine for the past seven days.

In particular, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged Putin to expel Indian students stranded in Kharkiv, near the Russian border in eastern Ukraine, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.

In this context, a statement has been issued on behalf of Russian President Putin. It said Russia would provide all necessary assistance to secure the release of the Indians.

In the statement, Russia said it had received information that some students were being held hostage by the Ukrainian military, using them as human shields and preventing them from crossing the border into Russia. However, the report said the safety of Indian students would be a priority.
