Born in Mumbai (then Bombay), the eldest son of the renowned tabla player Ustad Alla Rakha, Hussain was a family favorite and began his professional career at the age of twelve as an accompanist for Indian classical musicians. . He toured internationally for the first time at the age of 18 and over the years has earned acclaim as an accompanist, as well as his stunning solo performances and ground-breaking collaborations with musicians from around the world, raising the profile of the table in India and abroad.
Hussain also stopped several times in Austria for concert appearances. He played Porgy & Bess in Vienna in the summer of 2022. In the 1990s, Hussain was a guest at the Vienna Festival (1992) and appeared at the Vienna State Opera (1999).
