Ranchi: The Indian women’s team advanced to the semi-finals of the Paris Olympics hockey qualifiers. 5-1 win over Italy yesterday.

The Olympics will be held in Paris, France on July 26–Aug. It will happen on the 11th. Qualifiers for the participating women’s hockey teams are held in Ranchi. 8 teams, including India and Japan, will be divided into two groups and will compete in a league format first. The top 3 teams can go to the Paris Olympics.

The Indian team, ranked 6th in the world, has been placed in the ‘B’ category. In the first match, they fell to USA 0-2. They beat New Zealand 3-1 in the next match. They faced 20th-ranked Italy in their last league match yesterday. Even if they draw at least, the Indian team entered the field in a position to advance to the semi-finals.

India got a ‘penalty corner’ opportunity in the first minute of the match. Udittha converted this into Gol. India lead 1-0 in the first half. India got a ‘penalty stroke’ in the 41st minute of the second half. This was scored by Deepika Kolaka, Salima in the 45th minute and Navneet Kaur in the 53rd minute. Udidha (55th) scored the goal.

In the end, the Indian team won with the score of 5-1. Finished second in the table with 6 points and advanced to the semi-finals.
