Kathmandu: Two buses fell into the Trishuli river after a landslide on the Madan-Ashri highway in Nepal on Friday morning. There were 65 passengers in both these buses. Relief and rescue operations are underway after the buses were swept away in the Trishuli river. According to the report of Kathmandu Post, 11 people have been confirmed dead in this accident so far. Seven people from India are also among the dead. The relief workers have sent the bodies of the deceased to Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences for postmortem. Many passengers are still missing after the accident, efforts are being made to find them. The death toll in the accident is expected to increase significantly.
Due to the torrential monsoon rains in Nepal since June, incidents of landslides and floods have increased. A landslide occurred in Kaski on Friday morning, due to which two passenger buses were swept away in the Trishuli river. Army and police personnel along with medical personnel have been deployed for relief and rescue. Police spokesperson Dan Bahadur Karki said that this accident took place in Chitwan district, 86 km west of Kathmandu. He said that there were 41 people in the bus going from Kathmandu to Gaur and 24 people in the bus going from Birgunj to Kathmandu. Both the buses have fallen into the Trishuli river. Karki said that three houses were swept away due to a landslide in Kaski district, 150 km west of the capital, killing 10 people.
91 people died due to floods and landslides in Nepal
At least 91 people have died in landslides and floods in Nepal since mid-June. In a social media post on Friday, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal expressed grief over the disasters and directed government agencies to conduct effective search and rescue operations. Heavy rains are falling in many areas of Nepal. The impact of the water released from Nepal is also being seen in India. Due to the rain, all flights from Kathmandu to Bharatpur have been canceled. Due to heavy rains, there has been loss of life as well as property in Nepal.
