Mumbai: India’s preparations for the upcoming Test series against South Africa have suffered a major setback with the news that pacer Mohammad Shami will miss the series due to injury. Shami has not been able to heal from his injury and will not be traveling to South Africa for the series.

In addition to Shami, Deepak Chahar, who was part of the ODI squad, has also withdrawn from the series. Chahar cited a family issue related to the treatment of a close family member as the reason for his withdrawal. Akash Deep has been named as his replacement in the team.

Shami’s absence will be a big loss for India, as he has been in brilliant form with the ball, especially during the recent World Cup. Furthermore, Shami has an impressive record on African soil, having taken 35 wickets in eight Tests on the continent.

While the BCCI has not announced Shami’s replacement yet, there are speculations that he may be replaced by Krishna, who is currently in South Africa with the India A team, as the third pacer in the Test squad.
