Kolkata: India’s tour to South Africa has been postponed. The BCCI Annual General Meeting (BCCI AGM) in Kolkata today decided to postpone the tour in the wake of the Omicron variant. The South Africa-India series, which consists of three Tests, one ODI and four T20Is, was earlier scheduled to be played from December 17 to January 26.

The Indian team was expected to fly to South Africa on December 8 or 9 after the end of the Test series against New Zealand. But due to the current situation, it was decided to postpone the series. Earlier, it was reported that the tour may be delayed.

The BCCI has been in touch with the Central Government and Cricket South Africa over the series. The BCCI has yet to recall the India A team from South Africa, which is playing three four – day unofficial Test matches. Earlier, South Africa had postponed the three-match ODI series against the Netherlands against the backdrop of Omikron.

The South African Cricket Board had hoped that the cricket series against India would continue despite the Omicron threat. The South African Ministry of Foreign Affairs had stated that South Africa would take all precautionary measures to ensure the health and safety of the Indian team.
