Protester Indicted for Smashing Car Window of Ultra-Orthodox Woman and Children

Jerusalem, Israel – An activist involved in a protest against legal reform has been indicted after allegedly smashing the car window of an ultra-Orthodox woman while she was driving with her children. The suspect, identified as Dan Aharonson, a 39-year-old resident of Tel Aviv, now faces legal consequences for his actions during an illegal protest march in July.

The indictment against Aharonson was submitted to the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court by the prosecutor’s office earlier this morning. According to the submitted documents, Aharonson participated in a demonstration held near the Knesset on the day of the vote on reducing probable cause. As part of the protest, hundreds of demonstrators, including Aharonson, illegally broke into Begin road, obstructing the passage of numerous vehicles.

The evidence presented in the indictment claims that during the protest, the accused stopped an ultra-Orthodox woman and her three minor children from continuing their journey. After a verbal confrontation, during which Aharonson demanded the protesters clear the way, he then struck the back window of the vehicle with a flagpole, causing it to shatter. Fragments of glass ended up in the back seat, where the woman’s two children were seated, resulting in their distress.

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the incident occurred when the woman was navigating her car through the blocked road. Frustrated by the protesters’ actions, she voiced her concern that this act was undemocratic and akin to a dictatorship. Eventually, she attempted to bypass the group, but Aharonson struck her car’s window with the flagpole, causing panic and distress among the children inside the vehicle.

Aharonson’s actions have sparked outrage among right-wing activists, who have since protested in front of his house. Matan Jarfi, head of the tasks department in the Am Tiretus movement, denounced the violence and criticized the prosecutor’s office for allegedly attempting to protect Aharonson. Jarfi called for swift action, asserting that Aharonson poses a danger to the public and should be imprisoned immediately.

As the legal proceedings unfold, the incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers that can arise during protests, emphasizing the importance of peaceful and lawful demonstrations to enact social change.
