The indigenous people of the Warao ethnic group left Venezuela to escape the political and economic crisis. In Belém (PA), there are around 650 refugees. According to the city hall, 130 live in a shelter where they receive assistance, housing, food and support in social programs. Those who did not agree to stay complain about the conditions of the shelter. In a community made up of more than 70 immigrants, there is no sanitation. The children are enrolled in the public school system, but have learning difficulties.
