Dehradun: Uttarakhand Agriculture Minister Ganesh Joshi has said that martyrdom is not the monopoly of the Gandhi family and the assassinations of Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi were accidents.

“There is sympathy for Rahul’s intellectual level. Martyrdom is not the monopoly of the Gandhi family. Bhagat Singh, Savarkar and Chandrashekhar Azad are martyrs in India’s freedom struggle. Accidents befell members of the Gandhi family. There is a difference between accidents and martyrdom’ – the minister said.

He also indirectly mocked Rahul Gandhi saying that one can only speak according to his intellectual standard. The minister was responding to a question from reporters regarding Rahul’s speech at the concluding rally of Bharat Jodo Yatra in Srinagar.

The minister also said that Rahul should be indebted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for being able to complete the journey peacefully.

The credit goes to the Prime Minister. Had it not been for the abrogation of Article 370 and the return to normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir under his leadership, Rahul Gandhi would not have been able to hoist the national flag at Lal Chowk. The minister added that BJP leader Murali Manohar Joshi had hoisted the tricolor at Lal Chowk during the violence in Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier, at the conclusion of the Yatra in Srinagar, Rahul spoke about the martyrdom of Indira and Rajiv. Ganesh Joshi is also in charge of Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Departments.
