jpnn.com – Secretary of the DPR RI Democratic Party Fraction, Marwan Cik Asan, positively welcomed the government’s foreign policy strategy by becoming a full member of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).

The Democrat Party legislator considers Indonesia’s membership in BRICS to be a strategic step that should be appreciated.

“Joining BRICS is a strategic step for Indonesia to look to the future,” said Marwan in a written statement, Wednesday (8/1/2025).

He said Indonesia’s membership in BRICS showed the courage and determination of President Prabowo Subianto’s government in pursuing a free and active foreign policy.

Joining BRICS does not mean that Indonesia is joining a certain camp, but rather it is a form of active participation in all international forums and strengthening Indonesia’s position on the global stage.

Marwan explained four reasons why he supports Indonesia’s membership in BRICS. First, the organization provides access to a wider market with a total population of member countries of around 3.5 billion people, or 42 percent of the world’s population.

According to him, this opens up great opportunities for Indonesian products and services to compete in larger international markets.

Second, membership in BRICS strengthens South-South cooperation and reduces dependence on Western economies. In an increasingly multipolar global context, diversifying economic relations is a wise strategy.
