Indonesia‘s North Sulawesi province is reeling from the news, as police conduct identification procedures at Bhayangkara Hospital of the North Sulawesi Regional Police (Polda Sulut). According to a senior official with Polda Sulut, the process aims to confirm the identities of all those who perished before contacting their families.
The fire erupted at approximately 8:36 pm local time on Sunday at the Panti Werdha Damai nursing home, situated in the Ranomuut Sub-district of Paal Dua District, Manado. Firefighters responded swiftly, deploying three fire engines dispatched by the Manado city government, and successfully extinguished the blaze by 9:30 pm.
Following the initial reports, law enforcement officials instantly secured the area and initiated rescue operations. Survivors were transported to Manado City Regional Hospital and Permata Bunda Hospital for medical attention. Sadly, the deceased were transferred to the hospital for further processing and identification.
A dedicated police forensic team has launched a complete investigation, encompassing a thorough examination of the fire scene and detailed interviews with witnesses. The goal is to reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to the fire and determine its preliminary cause, a senior official stated.
