The Semaru volcano on the Indonesian island of Java recently erupted. The lava that came out of it was said to have reached a height of 15 kilometers.

The risk of a tsunami following the eruption is being monitored. The Japan Meteorological Agency reported that there had been no change in ocean tides so far.

About 100 people have been evacuated from the area around the volcano. No one has been injured so far.

Black smoke, ash, and lava from the volcano surround the surrounding villages.

Indonesian authorities have raised the alert level for the volcano to the highest level.

Semeru is the highest volcano in the state of Java. Its height is about 12,000 feet.

More than 300 people were killed in a series of earthquakes on the island of Java last month.
