Indonesia’s victory stalled at the last minute

FAJAR.CO.ID — The Indonesian national team has not been able to take home three points on its visit to Bahrain headquarters. The Garuda squad only got one point after being held to a draw by Bahrain with a score of 2-2 at the end of the match in the third round of the 2026 World Cup Qualification.

Coach Shin Tae-yong’s men had to go through a dramatic struggle in the match which took place at the Bahrain National Stadium on October 10 2024. From the start, hosts Bahrain immediately moved to surround Indonesia’s defenses.

Just during the match, quite a tense incident occurred. Indonesia’s concentration was disturbed at the start of the match, but with quick treatment, Malik returned to the field.

Entering the 11th minute, a hard tackle from Bahrain player, Ali Haram, hit Calvin Verdonk and resulted in the first yellow card of this match. This tackle started a half full of tension and physical fighting between the two teams.

The hosts managed to break the deadlock in the 15th minute. Bahrain opened the scoring through Mohamed Jasim Marhoon’s free kick and Maarten Paes’ goal

The ball hit the crossbar before bouncing into the goal guarded by Maarten Paes. This goal came courtesy of a foul by Rafael Struick, giving Bahrain an early lead.

Trailing 1-0 to Bahrain, the Indonesian National Team began to try to get out of the pressure. However, it is still difficult for the Indonesian national team to penetrate Bahrain’s back line. Jay Idzes and colleagues didn’t even open fire until the 30th minute.
