French industrial production grew by 1.2% in May, representing an acceleration of four tenths compared to April, due to the increase in the production of coke and refined products, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (Insee).

In this way, the processing of refineries and cokes rebounded 45.1% from the already bulky 22.5% in April. Meanwhile, food and beverages rose 1.6% and equipment and machinery goods 1.5%.

Transportation equipment was then boosted 1.1% from April, as construction and mining expanded 0.9% and 0.5%, respectively. Other types of manufacturing grew 1%.

French industrial production was 1.5% higher in May in year-on-year terms thanks to the performance of the transport equipment sector. In particular, the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers in the fifth month of 2023 was 25.4% above the figure registered by the Insee during the same month of the previous year.
