Five players from the Industriales baseball team were confirmed this Wednesday with Covid 19 after the PCR tests carried out on all members of the Cuban capital’s flagship baseball roster, the official Jit site confirmed.
The players were hospitalized to receive the corresponding medical attention and their contacts are in isolation in accordance with the established health protocol.
The illness of the athletes forced the suspension of the next subseries that Industriales had agreed upon with the Pinar del Río team.
Jit does not explain how the players became infected nor does he offer more information about the number of contacts that the Industriales athletes who have just played subseries with La Isla and Pinar del Rio had, which is why tests are being carried out on the players from both teams.
Analysts consulted by Cuba News 360 They thought that “an important search must be done. See where they could have been infected. If there was a violation of protocols in the place where they are staying.”
“The number has never been disclosed but in baseball several thousand systematic tests have been carried out on all the teams and personnel linked to the National Series. Until now, no number of cases have been recorded in national sports according to what was reported by Inder,” said a specialist who works in the current national baseball championship.
The commentator ruled out suspending the National Series due to infections in the capital’s “Lions” team.
Jit did not reveal the names of the positive cases but it has emerged that they may be infielders Yamil Rivalta, Yusniel Rosabal, Roberto Acebedo, as well as outfielder Dayron Blanco, according to the specialist site Swing Completo.
Last August, alarms went off when information was released about alleged infections in the Industrial team, but the suspicions were false.

Industriales occupies 9th place in the standings behind Santiago de Cuba with 34 games won and 29 losses. It is not ruled out that in the next few hours other positive cases with coronavirus will be known in the National series when the PCR results of the players from Pinar del Río and Isla de la Juventud are available.
Until this Wednesday, Cuba has confirmed 9,671 people with the disease and 10,869 samples taken for the diagnosis of coronavirus.
