INE carries out second quick count drill

With the objective of establishing security mechanisms, identifying areas of opportunity, directing efforts, defining final protocols for sending information and giving certainty to the results of the Electoral journeyhe National Electoral Institute (INE) carried out the Second Drill of Quick Counts for Concurrent Electoral Processes (PEC) 2023-2024.

The 11 members of the Quick Count Technical Advisory Committee (Cotecora), with the support of personnel from the executive directorates of the Federal Register of Voters (Derfe) and Electoral organizationas well as the IT Services Technical Unitimplemented this protocol exercise, with characteristics similar to those that will be presented next June 2ndElection Day day.

The technical and operational logistics for estimating results included the generation of information sent to more than 42 thousand Electoral Assistant Trainers (CAE), throughout the national scope, to later form a sample of more than 17 thousand boxes, from where information was sent to the operational center of the second simulation.

The head of the Derfe, Alejandro Sosa Duránindicated that the purpose is to ensure that all CAE are prepared to carry out this work on the day of Election Day, for which information was assigned to the corresponding box and in this way receive it from them, which was accomplished.

He added that this also implies a security measure, since it has the objective of not knowing in advance which CAE will have the mission of carrying out these activities established by the Cotecora. The final and definitive sample will be selected a few days before Election Day.

On June 2, the sample for the quick counts of 12 elections – the Presidency, senators, deputies and nine governorships, including the Head of Government of Mexico City – will be approximately 17 thousand of the more than 170 thousand voting booths at settle in that day.

The first results of the quick counts will be those corresponding to the Presidency, then the governorships and the Head of Government of Mexico City, and later those corresponding to the Congress of the Unionsenators and deputations.

The carrying out of this second drill had the participation of the Citizen Attention Centerthrough Inetel, and was followed by the Institute’s advisors, staff of the INE, of the local and district executive boards and of the Local Public Bodiesas well as representatives of political parties.

The members of Cotecora highlighted that the execution of the second drill was carried out satisfactorily and in accordance with what was established, improving what happened during the first exercise.

He Third Drill of the Quick Counts for the Concurrent Electoral Processes 2023-2024will be held next may 19.
