National Electoral Institute Denies Permission for Opposition March
The National Electoral Institute (INE) has denied permission for a march organized by the National Civic Front, led by Guadalupe Acosta Naranjo. The march, scheduled for Sunday, August 11th, is aimed at protesting what the organization claims is an “overrepresentation” of the Morena party and its allies in the upcoming Congress of the Union.
The National Civic Front announced the march through a message shared on social media. They claimed that the INE rejected their request to use the esplanade for the event. The INE cited previous use of the esplanade for other public events as the reason for their decision.
Despite the rejection, Acosta Naranjo stated that the march will go ahead as planned. He emphasized that the demonstration will be peaceful and legal.
Background:
The National Civic Front argues that the allocation of seats in the upcoming Congress favors Morena and its allies, leading to an “overrepresentation” of these parties. They claim that this unfair distribution of power threatens democratic principles.
Call to Action:
The organization has called for a citizen trial to be initiated before the Electoral Court to challenge the allocation of seats. They are inviting citizens to join the lawsuit.
Additional Information:
The march is scheduled to start at 11am on Sunday, August 11th.
Xóchitl Gálvez, a prominent opposition figure, has joined the call for the march and the citizen trial.
