Manchester united Eyeing Shock Reunion with Serie A MVP scott McTominay

Meta Description: Manchester United are reportedly regretting the sale of Scott McTominay and are considering a move to bring the Serie A MVP back to Old Trafford.

Manchester United are exploring a sensational move to re-sign midfielder Scott McTominay, just months after selling him to Napoli, according to multiple sources. The club’s new ownership group,INEOS,is believed to have acknowledged a misjudgment in allowing the 29-year-old to depart, sparking a potential bidding war with several other Premier League clubs.

McTominay rose through the ranks at Old Trafford, making his first-team debut under Jose Mourinho in May 2017. During his time with the Red Devils,he amassed 29 goals and eight assists in 255 appearances, contributing to FA Cup and League Cup triumphs. Though, the Scotland international was frequently deployed in a role that didn’t maximize his strengths – a deep-lying midfield position, despite being more effective as a box-to-box number eight.

His final season at United proved to be his most impactful, netting 10 goals and, crucially, playing a significant role in stabilizing Erik ten Hag’s position as manager. Despite this strong performance,McTominay was sold to Napoli in August 2024 for a fee of €30 million (then £25.7m).

Since arriving in Italy, McTominay has experienced a remarkable resurgence in form. He was crowned Serie A’s MVP last season, leading Napoli to the Scudetto, and also spearheaded Scotland’s qualification for the World Cup for the first time since 1998.

Did you know? – Scott McTominay’s Serie A MVP award is the first major individual honor of his career. He led Napoli to their first league title in 33 years, scoring key goals and providing consistent performances.

“United have been stunned by McTominay’s rise in Italy and ‘dream’ of bringing him back to England,” reported CaughtOffside.

INEOS reportedly “regret” the decision to sell the player and are actively “considering” a move to bring him back to the Old Trafford faithful. However, Napoli are in a strong negotiating position. CaughtOffside claims the Italian club values McTominay at more than £60 million and will only consider a sale if an “remarkable offer” is presented.

The interest doesn’t end there. Tottenham Hotspur are also expressing a keen interest, while Arsenal and Newcastle United are “monitoring the situation” closely.

Transfer correspondent Fraser Fletcher first revealed in November 2023 that both Manchester United and Arsenal were exploring potential moves for McTominay.Fletcher’s sources indicate that several Premier League teams have already contacted McTominay’s representatives regarding a possible transfer.

Further complicating matters, Fletcher has reported that Napoli will demand a fee exceeding the £60 million suggested by CaughtOffside, stating that “any bid below €80 million (£70m) would be laughed out of the Napoli boardroom.” he also revealed in October that Spurs were already pursuing an ambitious deal for the midfielder.

Beyond McTominay, United are also navigating other transfer matters. The club’s stance on Joshua zirkzee and Kobbie Mainoo, both previously linked with Everton, remains undisclosed. United are also reportedly admirers of Elliot Anderson, the Nottingham Forest maestro, though Manchester City are emerging as strong competitors for his signature, perhaps securing a move in 2026.
