Ucataclysmic year for the purchasing power of many French people. As an Elabe survey for BFMTV reports, 85% of households say they have to “tighten their belts”, of which 30% a lot and 55% a little, while the inflation crisis is in full swing and is generating a rise in prices in many sectors. According to this study, nearly three out of four French people (73%) believe that their purchasing power has fallen sharply. A figure up 16% in one year.

Another interesting figure, all categories of the population seem affected by this degradation. Managers and intermediate professions (76%, +22 points), employees/workers (73%, +19 points), those under 35 (67%, +25 points) and those aged 65 and over (73%, +10 points) are those whose portfolio seems the most affected.

Among the sacrifices made, we find in the first place leisure. For financial reasons, 51% of French people say they avoid shopping and going out (+19 points in one year) and almost half (48%, +13 points) admit to giving up going on vacation or weekends. But so-called essential expenses are also affected. More than a third give up buying certain food products (39%, +13 points) and heating their homes properly (37%, +12 points).

Political action called into question by the French

To improve their living conditions, many believe that state action is not enough. Nearly half (47%, +8 points in two months) of French people believe that government action does not in any way improve their purchasing power, while 44% (-4 points) say they will in the right direction but are insufficient. Only 8% of respondents (-4 points) say that they allow a real improvement.

Emmanuel Macron’s action concerning the purchasing power of the French and the fight against rising prices is more than ever criticized since only 28% of the French say they trust him according to the survey of our colleagues. But no political figure is in a position to change the situation according to public opinion. Among the main opposition figures, only Marine Le Pen obtains a better result than the Head of State (30%) while Jean-Luc Mélenchon (20%), the LR leaders (20%) and Éric Zemmour (14 %) are left behind.
