The rise in consumer prices in France accelerated to 6.2% year on year in October, INSEE reported on Tuesday, confirming its first estimate published at the end of last month. The prices of all fresh products increased by 17.3% over one year and those of fresh vegetables exploded by 33.9%, fruit taking 8% for their part. The prices of manufactured products also increased (4.2%), although much less, while those of services increased by 3.1%.

Over one month, the consumer price index took 1.0%, also confirms INSEE, those of energy rebounding by 5.8% compared to September, while food increased by 1.7 %. Core inflation, a measure used by economists and central banks to forecast the future trend of price developments and adjust interest rates accordingly, reached 5% in October, after 4.5% in September.

Finally, the harmonized consumer price index, used for comparisons at European level, increased by 7.1% over one year in October, after 6.2% in September. However, this level of price increases remains below the average for the euro zone, in which inflation reached a record level of 10.7% last month.
