Inflation after the holidays in Russia amounted to 0.1%

Inflation in Russia from 11 to 14 January amounted to 0.1%, Rosstat reported. Since the beginning of the month, prices have risen by 0.66%. Annual inflation, according to the Ministry of Economy, amounted to 8.62%.

The shortened four-day price action week is due to holidays and a shift in weekly consumer price recording from Monday to Friday.

Pasta remained the leader in price growth. During January 11–14, they added 0.7% in price, and 1.7% since the beginning of the year. Flour is in second place (+0.6% and +1.2%). Cabbage (+2.1% in four days), tomatoes (+2%) and beets (+1.3%) stand out among vegetables in Rosstat data. Sugar prices in Russia increased by 0.5% on average.

Chicken eggs and chicken meat fell in price (-1.1% and 0.4%). Prices for sunflower oil (-0.1%), millet (-0.9%) and chocolates (-0.6%) also decreased.

According to Rosstat, inflation reached 8.39% in 2021. Today, January 19, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov called the current inflation rate unacceptable. At a press conference in December 2021, President Vladimir Putin said a return to the 4% target was needed. On January 12, he proposed indexing pensions slightly above inflation by 8.6%.
