This is not yet a panacea for the French, it does not prevent: for weeks, the harbingers of the decline in inflation are multiplying. The rise in prices in France should finally decline to fall to 4.4% at the end of the year, its lowest rate since March 2022, according to the new INSEE economic note published on Thursday. It would thus reach 5% on average this year, after 5.2% in 2022, a figure close to Bercy’s forecast (4.9%) but still high.

In May, a first step was taken. Thanks to the fall in energy prices, the rise in prices was limited to 5.1% over one year, down sharply from the 5.9% in April. The statistics institute expects the deceleration to continue, mainly due to the slowdown in soaring food prices, the engine of inflation in France since September 2022.
