Bogotá — The cost of living in Colombia continues to decline.
The Dane revealed that inflation last September reached 10.99%, which represents a decrease of 0.44 percentage points compared to August of this year (11.43%).
And compared to September 2022, a drop of 0.45 percentage points, since in that month last year the CPI was 11.44%.
Likewise, last month’s indicator fell compared to the previous year (January-September). For 2023 the figure is 8.01% and for 2022 it was 10.08%. A relevant reduction of 2.07 percentage points.
Food prices also reflect a decrease: in September 2023 the increase was 0.74% while in September 2022 it had been 1.61% and in August 2023 it was 1.13%.
If the monthly variation is observed, the CPI also registers a fall in September: in 2023 this month it reached 0.54% while for 200 it stood at 0.93%.
The education division registered a monthly variation of 1.79%, this being the highest monthly variation. In September 2023, the largest price increases were recorded in the subclasses: secondary education (3.31%), preschool and basic primary education (2.65%) and payments for homework consultancy and classes taught by individuals (2.00 %). The only price decrease was reported in the subclass: non-formal education courses (-0.02%).
The alcoholic beverages and tobacco division registered a monthly variation of 0.82%, this being the second highest monthly variation. In September 2023, the largest price increases were recorded in the subclasses: whiskey, rum, brandy, vodka, gin, cognac, tequila, liqueur creams and aperitifs (1.09%), beer and soft drinks (0.95%). and wine, champagne, sherry and wine-based aperitifs for home consumption (0.26%). The smallest price increases were reported in the subclasses: liquor (0.15%), cigarettes, tobacco and derivatives (0.20%).
The Information and communication category registered a monthly variation of 0.07%, this being the lowest monthly variation. In September 2023, the largest price increase was recorded in the subclass: mobile telephone equipment, similar and repair (0.92%). The fixed and mobile communication services and internet provision subclass did not present a monthly variation.
