The pace of consumer price increases in the European Union slowed to 2.6 percent in June compared to the same month in 2023. Over the same period, consumer prices in the euro area slowed to 2.5 percent, the latest data revealed of the European statistical agency Eurostat, published today.

Thus, inflation on an annual basis in the EU and the eurozone decreased by 0.1 percentage point compared to the data for May, when it accelerated and reached 2.7 and 2.6 percent, respectively, BTA reported.

In Bulgaria, inflation in June, calculated according to the harmonized index of consumer prices (HIPC), compared to the same month last year, fell to 2.8 percent, while in May it rose to 2.7 percent. On a monthly basis in June, domestic consumer prices were up by 0.2 percent, according to Eurostat data.

Earlier in the week, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) reported that the consumer price index in our country in June increased by 2.5 percent on an annual basis, but decreased by 0.2 percent on a monthly basis.

In June this year services (+1.84 percentage points) are the most significant contributors to annual inflation in the euro area, followed by food, alcohol and tobacco (+0.48 percentage points), non-energy industrial goods (+0.17 percentage points) and energy ( +0.02 percentage points).

The lowest annual inflation in the EU was reported in Finland (0.5 percent), Italy (0.9 percent) and Lithuania (1 percent), while the highest was in Belgium (5.4 percent) , Romania (5.3 percent), Spain and Hungary (3.6 percent each).

Compared to May 2024, annual inflation fell in seventeen member states, remained unchanged in one and rose in another nine.
