Information advisor calls for BTV to act as people’s media

Information and Broadcasting Adviser Nahid Islam has urged Bangladesh Television (BTV) to work as the people’s media.

He made this call to the officials of the institution while visiting the BTV station in Rampura of the capital on Wednesday (September 4).

The information adviser said, there is no need to please the government. Work independently for the people. BTV should be people friendly.

He said that BTV should follow the true principles of media. Laws and policies need to be reviewed for reform.

Calling for a documentary with the interviews of the families of those who were martyred in the student uprising, Nahid Islam said that the stories of marginalized or outside Dhaka and poor people who were martyred in this movement should be told to the people.

This government does not represent any party. Therefore, Nahid Islam advised BTV not to give exclusive priority to any party in the matter of promotion.

He said, those who could not perform during the Awami government, those who were deprived, should be given a chance.

The information adviser clearly told BTV that nothing should be done to please the government.

Saidur Rahman, DDG of the institution told the advisor that at least Tk 184 crore was damaged in the attack on the BTV building during the anti-discrimination student movement. The information adviser wants to know whether anyone from the organization was injured in this attack.

Adviser Nahid Islam directed to seriously promote the issues of attacks on minorities, plight of flood affected people, extortion, encroachment and border killings across the country.

Information Adviser Nahid Islam went to the residence of Ahnaf, a college student who was killed during the uprising of students in Mirpur’s Paikpara on Wednesday. He inquires about Ahnaf’s younger brother’s studies and promises to stand by the family in any need from now on. At that time Ahnaf’s mother, father, two brothers and aunt were present.

The advisor said, the way the students came down on the streets during the uprising, as a result of their sacrifice, today we have a new independent Bangladesh. A memorial service will be held soon with the family members of all the martyrs. Your presence there is desirable.

He also said that the country will remember those who were martyred in the movement. Many unnamed students were martyred in this movement. They are being listed. So far 800 names have been found. We are alive for martyrs. I can speak freely and freely.

It is to be noted that Shahid Shafiq Uddin Ahmed Ahnaf (17) was an eleventh grade student of BAF Shaheen College in the capital. He was shot dead by the police in Mirpur-10 on August 4 during the anti-discrimination student movement. The bullet entered through the right side of his chest and exited through the other side.
