Information released on detainees under the Prevention of Terrorism Act!

Prisons Department spokesman Chandra Ekkanayake said 275 people were still being held in prisons in Sri Lanka under the Terrorism Prohibition Act.

He added that among those detained under the Terrorism Prohibition Act were surviving Sunday attack suspects.

He said 275 people were currently under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.

According to the Department of Prisons, 197 prisoners have been released under the President’s amnesty ahead of the 74th Independence Day.

Accordingly, 20 inmates were released from Mahara Prison, 18 from Kegalle Prison, 17 from Welikada Prison and 13 from Kalutara Prison.

Eleven inmates each from Bokampara and Batticaloa prisons and 10 inmates from Wariyapola prison were released under a general amnesty by the President.

Meanwhile, former parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake was not released under a general amnesty.
