An inguinal hernia is a lump that grows under the skin in the abdomen, between the abdomen and the groin. It develops when the intestine protrudes from the abdominal cavity. Present from birth in 2 to 5% of children, it can also appear in adults following repeated efforts, being overweight, chronic cough or even constipation. More common among men than among women, nearly one in three will undergo surgery during their lifetime for this condition.
