Japanese Naomi Osaka withdrew from the 250 in Hong Kong today. The former US Open winner must therefore conclude her season.
Injured Japanese Naomi Osaka has ended her season, organizers of the WTA 250 tournament in Hong Kong (October 28 – November 3), which she had planned to participate, announced on Monday. Now 56th in the WTA rankings, the 27-year-old had to withdraw at the beginning of October in the round of 16 of the WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing. He had already had to give up playing in the Tokyo tournament, which starts on Monday.
“I’ve played a lot of tournaments this year, so not playing (in Hong Kong, ed.) and obviously the BJK Cup was a very difficult decision to make”Osaka said. But “Honestly, I loved it” last year, he added.
A double winner of the Australian Open and US Open, Osaka returned to the professional circuit in January after a hiatus of more than a year during which she gave birth to a daughter. Since her return she has failed to get past the quarterfinals of the tournaments she has participated in.
