Philadelphia Eagles’ Tyrie Cleveland and Moro Ojomo Suffer Concussions in Preseason Game

A preseason exhibition match between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night took a frightening turn when two players from the Eagles suffered injuries that required immediate attention.

Wide receiver Tyrie Cleveland and defensive lineman Moro Ojomo were both carted off the field, raising concerns among players, coaches, and fans.

During the third quarter, Cleveland went to the ground awkwardly after an incomplete pass from quarterback Tanner McKee. Medical staff rushed to Cleveland’s aid, and he remained on the field for several minutes before being placed on a stretcher and taken off the field. Fortunately, Cleveland was reported to have movement in all of his extremities, providing some relief amidst the worrying situation. Cleveland’s night came to an end after catching one of his three targets for a gain of four yards.

Later in the second half, Ojomo suffered a neck injury when teammate Tristin McCollum accidentally struck him in the neck area while attempting to bring down Browns backup quarterback Kellen Mond. Like Cleveland, Ojomo was also carted off the field but gave a thumbs-up and waved, indicating he had some movement. The Eagles confirmed that Ojomo, too, had movement in all of his extremities despite the neck injury.

In a statement released on Friday, the Eagles revealed that both players had been diagnosed with concussions. The team’s medical staff exercised caution and provided immediate treatment to ensure the best possible outcome for Cleveland and Ojomo’s health and well-being. The statement commended the medical team for their quick diagnosis and precise care. While both players are expected to make a full recovery, the Eagles did not provide a specific timeline for their return.

Ojomo, a 25-year-old defensive lineman, has been impressive during the summer, actively vying for a spot on the Eagles’ 53-man roster for the upcoming season. In the preseason opener against the Ravens, Cleveland showcased his skills, catching five out of his team-high 10 targets for 68 yards, building on his strong performance during training camp.

Cleveland began his NFL career as a seventh-round draft pick for the Denver Broncos in 2020. Over three seasons with the Broncos, he appeared in 23 games but had limited playing time. Cleveland caught eight of his 17 targets for 91 yards and also rushed for 17 yards on five carries. He was waived by the Broncos in November of last season and eventually joined the Eagles’ practice squad during their playoff run.

Despite these setbacks, the Eagles remain hopeful that both Cleveland and Ojomo will recover fully and return to the field in due time. Fans and teammates alike are sending well wishes to the injured players, hoping for their speedy recovery.
