Innovations in biotechnology and AI, memorandum signed – Science and Technology

(ANSA) – TRIESTE, 01 OCTOBER – A memorandum of understanding to encourage innovation in the field of biotechnology and artificial intelligence was signed in Trieste between the president of the Center for Advanced Studies for AI, Pier Paolo Maria Menchetti, and the director general of the International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Lawrence Banks.
“The memorandum of understanding – underlines Menchetti in a note – includes several key aspects, to contribute to significant innovations in the field of biotechnology and artificial intelligence with applications involving genetic research, molecular and cellular biology, biomedicine, infectious diseases, plant biotechnology, biofuels. First, research objectives with the development of joint projects integrating artificial intelligence and biotechnology with the identification of areas of application of AI in genomics, bioinformatics and biotechnology the topic of ethics and regulations, through the development of guidelines for the application of AI in biotechnology and compliance with international regulations regarding biotechnological research and the use of AI”.
“The protocol – states Banks – will personally involve Dr. Emanuele Buratti, scientific coordinator of the Organization for the sector of neurodegenerative diseases in a general framework of cooperation, for the development of training courses, higher education programs and the implementing these on natural language processing (NLP), aimed at using AI to benefit the life sciences community.”
