BOLZANO. The 39-year-old Tyrolean man accused of the death of his severely disabled son was acquitted by the Innsbruck Court. In August 2022, the child was recovered dead from the Kitzbueheler Ache River. The father had declared that he had been attacked and knocked out by a stranger during a walk, at 5.20 in the morning, in St. Johann in Tyrol.

The frightened child then got out of the stroller and fell into the river. However, the investigators did not believe this version of events and asked for and obtained a committal for trial for murder. According to the prosecution, there was no evidence for the robbery and only the owner’s fingerprints were found on the father’s cell phone, found a short distance away in a garbage bin. The defense, during the trial, instead highlighted the alleged lack of a motive and the fact that the man has always been a caring father.

Today, the father, who faced life imprisonment, was unanimously acquitted by the Assize Court.
