The Schröder furniture factory is 160 years old – but now the future of the traditional company is uncertain. The company is insolvent.

The furniture manufacturer Schröder from Delbrück, East Westphalia, is insolvent. The traditional company filed for insolvency on Monday, as several media outlets reported. Lawyer Yorck Tilman Streitbörger from the Streitbörger law firm was appointed as the provisional insolvency administrator.

As the Paderborn-based radio station Radio Hochstift reports, the approximately 100 employees were informed of the insolvency on Tuesday afternoon. According to managing director Franz-Hendrik Schröder, the reasons for the bankruptcy are the weak order situation and the persistently high costs.

Added to this is a persistent reluctance to buy and a collapse in the construction industry – all of this has led to “considerable declines in sales” for the company, as Radio Hochstift quotes Schröder.

Not least because of the uncertain development of the industry, according to Schröder, the emergency brake has now been pulled, it continues. Production will continue for the time being, and the hope is that the company can be saved through insolvency proceedings. The sister company, the Schröno upholstered furniture factory, is not affected by the insolvency – it is “well positioned,” says managing director Schröder.

The Schröder furniture factory says it has been making furniture since 1864. Today, the company produces “premium furniture”. This includes TV cabinets, coffee tables and bathroom cabinets. The furniture from the Schröder factory is available nationwide at well-known furniture stores such as Porta, Höffner and Segmüller.
