Inspect prices and supply of corn in the center of San Salvador

In order to identify and sanction abusive practices by marketers, inspectors from the Consumer Ombudsman’s Office together with personnel from the General Directorate of Internal Taxes (DGII) of the Ministry of Finance, carried out price and supply checks for corn in the center of San Salvador.

The president of the Ombudsman’s Office stated that these verifications are aimed at importers, marketers, wholesale distributors and retailers. In addition, more than 10,000 inspections have been carried out.

“We have presented 118 cases to the Sanctioning Court. Of the 118 cases, we already have 49 sanctions that exceed $156,000”, informed the president of the Institution.

In addition, in the face of abusive practices such as hoarding and unjustified price increases, importers, distributors and marketers will be penalized with fines of up to 500 minimum wages.
