by time news
From last Tuesday (August 13), teams from the General Directorate for the Restoration of Natural Disaster Effects (GDAPEFD) of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection have been conducting daily checks and inspections of building infrastructures in areas of northern and eastern Attica following the fires on August 11.

Specifically, the GDAPEFD teams were activated under the guidance of the General Secretariat for the Restoration of Natural Disasters and State Aid, with over 60 engineers participating, and inspections were carried out in eight municipalities of Attica, completing the majority of the inspection work, which will continue in the coming days in communication and coordination with the owners and municipalities of the area.

In particular, inspections by the GDAPEFD teams took place in fire-affected areas of the municipalities of Vrilissia, Dionysus, Marathon, Pallini, Penteli, Rafina-Pikermi, Chalandri, and Oropos, within a framework of close collaboration with the municipalities, as the visits and inspections are based on guidance and information from the local government officials.

So far, in the above eight municipalities of Attica, 184 inspections of buildings have been conducted, of which 158 were of residences, 21 of warehouses, 2 of public buildings, and 3 of commercial spaces. From these inspections, it has been determined that 104 residences are classified as uninhabitable and to be demolished (“red”) and temporarily uninhabitable requiring repair works (“yellow”), with the distribution in the two categories being 40 and 64 respectively. Also, 54 residences, after the inspections, are deemed suitable for use (“green”) with some possibly minor damages.

Inspections will continue by GDAPEFD teams in the coming days in Attica, in the context of close collaboration with the municipalities, which are collecting citizens’ requests.

Finally, regarding the work of the State Aid Committees of the Attica Region, which are also in the field conducting inspections of businesses, 30 cases of businesses that were affected by the fire have been recorded so far.
