Fourth Sunday appointment in a row and fourth “woman” for Inspector Montalbano. This new cycle of reruns of the historic series seems to have as its common denominator co-protagonist. After Serena Rossi, Belen Rodriguez and Margareth Madè, today it’s the turn of Valentina Lodovini. She is the female protagonist/guest star of the episode A den of vipers.

The entrepreneur Cosimo Barletta (Marcello Mazzarella) comes found killed. Someone shot him while he was having breakfast in his seaside villa. During the investigations, Montalbano (Luca Zingaretti) and his companions find around twenty envelopes containing photos of naked young women. Furthermore, there was no sign of forced entry at the crime scene. The victim opened the door to her killer, either he had the keys, or he was already at home: the two knew each other.
The victim’s children reveal a different truth than what everyone thought. The entrepreneur was not as “clean” as he appeared. Indeed: he was a loan shark and many in Vigata were his victims. Each one potential killer.
Forensic results reveal that the man was already dead when he was shot. The real cause of death is a powerful veleno in the coffee. So they both killed him?

How A Den of Vipers Ends: The Ending (Spoiler)
I two sons they become the prime suspects. Arturo had already been disinherited by his father. Giovanna (Valentina Lodovini)hides a terrible secret: the father had one incestuous relationship with her. The homeless Camastra (Alessando Haber), reveals to Montalbano and Livia (Sonia Bergamasco) another piece of the Barletta family history. The mother, years before, having discovered the relationship between her husband and daughter, had committed suicide by throwing herself into the sea. He, who at the time was a medico (later disgraced after the death of a patient), had witnessed the scene.
The truth, the commissioner discovers, is that Arturo shot his fatherbut it was Giovanna to poison him. The woman commits suicide in the same way as her mother. But first he addresses Montalbano a letter: tells the truth, denouncing yourself. But he asks the commissioner not to reveal it: children should not know his tragic story…
