The Unidos do Viradouro samba school won its third Rio de Janeiro Carnival champion title. The Niterói school, in the metropolitan region, was the last to parade from the Special Group and carried out a technically perfect parade by presenting in Sapucaí a show whose central theme was “Arroboboi, Dangbé”, about the vodum cult of snakes .
Under the direction of the carnivalesque Tarcísio Zanon, Viradouro immersed himself in the cosmos of vodum, a religious tradition of the west African coast that has its roots among the Jeje and Uidá people. The plot paid tribute to vodum, a word that means spirit in the Bês language.
Before the start of the awarding of the award, the announcer of the notes Jorge Perlingeiro announced that four schools presented a request for sanction against Viradouro for, allegedly, using more than 15 people in their front commission. The Liesa (Independent League of Samba Schools of Rio de Janeiro) stated that the appeals were accepted, but will only be analyzed this Thursday (15). However, even with a possible sanction, the result should not change. The school ignored the possible penalty and greatly celebrated the achievement.
