Insta360 launched the Insta360 Mic on October 22 as a wireless microphone system featuring customizable E-Ink displays and microSD expandable storage. Positioned between the flagship Mic Pro and entry-level Mic Air, the new system offers creators a more affordable path to audio with 32-bit float internal recording capabilities.
The wireless microphone market is often a race toward lower prices and higher spec sheets, but Insta360 is attempting to turn the hardware itself into a branding tool. By integrating a 1.22-inch six-color E-Ink display on the transmitter, the company lets creators upload logos, emojis, or photos to personalize their on-camera appearance. The display features a resolution of 240 × 208, matching the Mic Pro.
Insta360 Mic Offers Three Pricing Kits
The new Mic is designed to undercut the Mic Pro while retaining core functionality. Pricing varies based on the kit selected, with options for those who only need a single transmitter for solo vlogging or full kits for multi-person interviews.
| Configuration | Price (USD) |
|---|---|
| Single Transmitter | $79.99 |
| One Transmitter + One Receiver | $139.99 |
| Two Transmitters + One Receiver | $249.99 |
Pricing for the Insta360 Mic is US$79.99 for one transmitter, US$139.99 for a kit with one transmitter and one receiver, and US$249.99 for a set containing two transmitters and one receiver. The Mic is available through Amazon, the Insta360 store, and authorized retailers.

MicroSD Slots Enable 32-Bit Float Recording
The most significant technical shift from the Pro model is how the device handles internal backups. While the Mic Pro uses 32GB of built-in storage, the Insta360 Mic has no onboard memory. Instead, it features a microSD card slot in each transmitter.
When a card is inserted, the transmitter can record a backup file in 32-bit float or 24-bit at 48kHz. This 32-bit float format is critical for unpredictable environments because it captures a wider dynamic range, allowing audio that is too loud or too quiet to be recovered in post-production without distortion. According to Insta360, 32-bit float recording uses roughly 700MB per hour, while 24-bit uses 500MB per hour.

It is important to note that the 32-bit float capability applies only to the internal microSD recording; the wireless feed sent to the receiver is not 32-bit float.
Hardware Trade-offs Against the Mic Pro
To reach the lower price point, Insta360 simplified the microphone capsule. The Mic Pro utilizes a three-microphone array that adds directional pickup alongside omnidirectional recording. The standard Mic uses a single omnidirectional capsule, meaning users cannot select from multiple pickup patterns; omnidirectional is the only option.

However, this simplified hardware results in a slightly lighter device and better endurance. The Mic transmitter weighs 19.4 grams, compared to 19.7 grams for the Pro. Battery life has also increased from up to 10 hours on the Pro to up to 13 hours on a single charge. The receiver is rated for 11 hours. When paired with the 2815mAh battery in the charging case, which can recharge two transmitters and a receiver about twice, the total system runtime reaches 34 hours. Fast charging is also available, as a 5-minute charge provides up to 2 hours and 20 minutes of use.
Ecosystem Integration and Connectivity
The system is built for flexibility across different recording setups. One receiver can handle up to four transmitters, and because the Mic and Mic Pro share the same receiver, transmitters from both models can be mixed for larger conversations. For multicamera productions, up to four receivers can simultaneously receive synchronized audio from two transmitters.

For users of Insta360 cameras, Direct Connect pairs the transmitter over Bluetooth straight to supported cameras, recording 48kHz audio with no receiver at all.

For non-Insta360 gear, the receiver connects via a built-in USB-C connector or a 3.5mm cable to professional cameras, laptops, and other recording devices or smartphones. The system offers a range of up to 400 meters. The transmitter also includes a 3.5 mm input for a lav mic.

AI Chip Manages Noise Reduction and Specs
Both the Mic and Mic Pro utilize noise reduction that runs on a dedicated AI audio chip with two strength levels. Technical audio specs feature a maximum SPL of 130dB at 10% THD, an equivalent noise of 22dB (A-weighted), and a signal-to-noise ratio of 72dB (A-weighted). Frequency response is 20Hz to 20kHz, or 100Hz to 20kHz with the low cut engaged.
“The Insta360 Mic is one of the best audio solutions for creators you can buy,” according to cgmagonline.com.
