Hundreds of thousands of Instagram users, including actresses Julianne Moore and Ashley Tisdale, have shared a post in which they think they revoke Meta’s right to build its artificial intelligence with their data.

“Goodbye Meta AI,” he said, before the user explained that he “does not give Meta or anyone else permission to use your personal data, profile information or photos.” Many users fear that in the future their personal pictures, videos and words will be used by artificial intelligence outside of their own profile.

But: this Post It does NOT work as a contraption!

Fact checkers have already flagged the post as “false information”

A viral Instagram story is a re-use of an old, ineffective post. And meta-scientists have confirmed to Sky News, among others, that they do not consider such a valid form of opposition to their new AI guidelines.

It has now been flagged as “false information” by fact checkers on Instagram. However, there is another, more effective way to appeal.

Meta provides a form called “Submit an Appeal” on Instagram and Facebook. This will appear when you log in. Users then have to explain why their data should not be used to train AI. This link will take you to the objection form.

Important to know: In order for Meta to agree to the objection, it may be necessary to enter arguments in the “Additional position” text field.

This is what the consumer advisory firm advises

The North Rhine-Westphalia Consumer Agency has already made suggestions about how users can dispute:

  • “I own the copyright to my posted data and do not grant any usage rights for AI applications.”
  • “I am afraid that the information I posted will be republished in the wrong place.”
  • “I’m always uncomfortable with the concept of AI.”

Meta’s parent company plans to feed in-house artificial intelligence Meta AI with user data, photos and videos. The privacy policy change is actually scheduled for June 26th. After pressure from data protection advocates, the launch in Europe was postponed.

However, you should object if the plans affect the next day!
