Instagram introduces new rules and features to protect teens

by time news

The Instagram service has introduced new features aimed at enhancing the safety of teens. Instagram will now place a stronger focus on the topics it recommends to teens and will also introduce a “Take a Break” feature.

The social network has banned users from tagging or mentioning teens they are not subscribed to. Instagram will also invite teens to look at other topics if they have been focusing on one for a long time. Parents will be able to see how much time their kids spend on Instagram and set a time limit. The Take a Break feature will offer users a break from social media if they’ve spent a lot of time using the app. It will launch in the US, UK, Ireland, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.

Previously, Instagram banned adult users from writing to teenagers who did not follow them, and also made new accounts of children under 16 closed by default. Due to the criticism, Instagram has also suspended development of a children’s version of Instagram Kids.
