jpnn.comJAKARTA – Instagram is testing a change to its profile page, by changing the grid of boxes on the profile to a vertical rectangle.

A number of users have recently spotted the test, and there are indications the company has been experimenting with rectangular grids since at least 2022.

“The vast majority of what’s posted to Instagram is now vertical,” Instagram head Adam Mosseri said in a post on Instagram Stories on Friday about the test.

“They’re either 4×3 on photos or 9×16 on videos, and cropping them into a square is pretty difficult,” Adam Mosseri continued.

He said the square shape was used when Instagram users could only upload square photos, a limitation that Instagram has removed since 2015.

Adam Mosseri realizes that changes to profile pages can be frustrating for people who have spent a lot of time curating and making sure everything fits.

However, he said that he really wants to do something better with the content now.

Instagram spokesperson Christine Pai said the vertical profile grid test is being conducted on a limited basis with a small number of users.
