Instructor dies and student arrested

A singular incident occurred recently at the facilities of the Police University in Mexico Citylocated in the Álvaro Obregón mayor’s office, where a shooting instructor of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) lost his life during a practice session.

He Non-commissioned officer Erick Contreras Galindo, 47 years oldsuccumbed to a bullet wound to the chest while participating in the exercise, being rushed to the San Ángel Inn hospital, where unfortunately he was declared dead upon arrival.

The firearms accident took place during a assault rifle practice sessionaccording to preliminary reports provided by police authorities.

Paramedics from the Rescue and Emergency Medical Squad (ERUM) went to the scene to provide medical care to the injured instructor, who was taken to the hospital by air in a police helicopter. However, efforts to save his life were unsuccessful.

The tragedy was worsened by the arrest of cadet Héctor “N”, 32 years old, who was apprehended at the scene of the events and subsequently presented to the Public Ministry to clarify the events and determine responsibilities.

The SSC has announced that the General Directorate of Internal Affairs is carrying out an exhaustive administrative investigation to clarify the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate event.
