By the end of December, the State Language Center found insufficient knowledge of the state language in 20 educational institutions. 16 of them were general education institutions, three sports schools and one educational institution for the interests of children and youth.
The largest number of pedagogues with insufficient knowledge of the national language was found in Riga – 32 pedagogues. There were four such educators in Ventspils, three educators each in Rēzekne and Liepāja regions, two educators in Augšdaugava region, and one more teacher each in Daugavpils, Rēzekne and Salaspils regions.
Out of 47 educators with insufficient knowledge of the national language, 15 have been released from work, 14 have been suspended, and another 18 educators are temporarily unable to work.
This is the second school year when the teaching process in preschools and basic education is gradually implemented only in the national language – the 1st, 4th and 7th grade students have also joined the 2nd, 5th and 8th grade students. From September 1, 2025, students of the 3rd, 6th and 9th grades will learn only in Latvian.
Before that, classes were held only in Latvian in secondary schools.
