The cities of the future should be “talking” so that their populations can talk about the history of these cities, their streets and their squares, and so that each individual can talk about their origins or their home, said Mr. Bensaid who was speaking at the opening of the launch ceremony of the 5th edition of the “Florilège culturel” Festival, placed under the theme “The city of tomorrow, from the virtuous city to the intelligent city”.

The virtuous city of Al-Farabi and the future smart city form a single entity, he said, specifying that virtue, equity and responsibility are values that can only be spread constantly in a practical, intelligent, efficient and dynamic framework.

The ethical city and the smart city must intersect and complement each other in the future, but on condition that the latter is also a “talking city”, he continued.

This new dimension, which goes hand in hand with traditions, can be ensured thanks to new technologies, noted Mr. Bensaid, noting that his department had recently launched in Rabat the event “Nostalgia – Emotion of yesterday” at the archaeological site of Chellah, which confirmed that citizens want walls that tell a story, which will allow them to experience this common history as they pass through the streets, near monuments and under arcades.

Placed under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, this edition of the “Cultural Anthology” festival is marked by conferences and round tables, held in the presence of intellectuals, experts and specialists in order to explore the synergies between traditional moral values and technological advances.

Organized by the Ribat Al-Fath Association for Sustainable Development in partnership with the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication – Department of Culture -, this cultural event addresses crucial topics such as promoting citizens’ well-being, ethical behavior, environmental protection policies, anti-poverty programs and innovative citizen participation initiatives. The aim is to highlight the importance of these values in building an ideal city, even in the era of the smart city.

The organizers aim, through this event, which continues until December 25, to contribute to the debates on the creation of a city of the future that combines the concepts of the ideal city and the smart city.
