Intel attempted to acquire Tower Semiconductor, an analog chip maker, but canceled the purchase after failing to receive timely permits from China. But both companies will continue to collaborate because Intel Foundry Services will offer part of its production capacity so that Tower can serve its customers globally. For this, the Fab 11X from New Mexico will be used.
In it, Tower will install its own equipment worth 300 million dollars for a processing capacity of 600,000 layers of photolithos per month. It will be manufactured using the 65nm process for power management chips, among Tower’s other specialized analog processes such as Radio Frequency Silicon-on-Insulator (RFSOI).
