The second day of Intelligence Week: an event on defense, a seminar on the reputation of companies after a cyber attack, the presentation of two books and a special on Emanuela Orlandi


After the great success of the first day of the Intelligence Week, with almost 700 participants, today the second day of I-Week, the six days dedicated to intelligence, geopolitics and technological surroundings. The morning was entirely dedicated to a talk on the binomial intelligence and defense, moderated by Pietro Batacchi, director of RID – Italian Defense Magazine, who introduced the presentation as follows: “The theme of intelligence has always been important, but today, with the new scenarios that are being created, it is even more so. We are today facing an extremely competitive scenario, where there are three superpowers which are the United States, Russia, China, great powers such as France and the United Kingdom, and then, regional powers that are able to influence events in strategic sectors of the international scenario such as Iran, Pakistan and India. We also remember the irregular actors, who despite being non-state realities, have very respectable military capabilities, such as the availability of sophisticated technology. In this scenario, the Intelligence, the competition for technology become two characterizing elements. “

During the seminar several guests intervened including Alberto Pagani deputy of the PD, who reflected on the role of intelligence in military operations, General Battisti who illustrated how military doctrines have evolved within the Nagorno Karabakh armed conflict . Among the experts also Lorenzo Mariani of MBDA, Paolo Quercia, Professor of Intelligence Systems and Collective Security at the University of Perugia, Umberto Saccone, President of Ifi Advisory and Director of the master’s Intelligence and Security Link Campus University, Leonardo Tricarico, President of the Icsa Foundation, formerly Chief of Staff of the Air Force.

In the early afternoon, a talk was held, moderated by Giuliano Tavaroli, expert in intelligence strategies, on the topic of how cyber incidents can jeopardize the survival of companies. During the afternoon two books were presented, “Collective Intelligence” by Angelo Tofalo and “When you spent the night” by Ottavia Casagrande. Regarding his book “Collective Intelligence” (2021) he said: “Collective intelligence is a project that was born a few years ago, in the previous legislature when I was chosen as group leader for my political force within COPASIR, the Parliamentary Committee for the Security of the Republic, and there I immediately realized that there was a tendency on the part of politics to avoid talking about intelligence and secret services, to keep this matter relegated to the vocabulary of professionals ”.
