Intense Northeast Monsoon and Heavy Rainfall in Tamil Nadu, Chennai Meteorological Department Reports

by time news

Chennai: The Northeast Monsoon has intensified in Tamil Nadu, leading to an atmospheric mantle circulation in and around the northern coastal region. As a result, the sky is expected to remain cloudy in most parts of the northern districts, accompanied by occasional moderate rain.

The districts of Nilgiris and Coimbatore are likely to experience very heavy rainfall until this morning, while heavy rain is forecasted to continue in most districts until the 8th of this month.

According to the Chennai Meteorological Department, as of yesterday morning, Valparai recorded the highest rainfall in the state, with 13 cm in just 24 hours. Moreover, more than 150 locations have received moderate rain during this period.

The continuous downpour has raised concerns among the residents and local authorities as it may lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas and affect normal life. The state government has urged the citizens to take necessary precautions and advised them to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary.

In response to the situation, the district administrations have also alerted their respective disaster management teams to remain on high alert and ensure prompt action in case of any emergency. Relief measures like the provision of shelter and food have been put in place to handle any untoward incidents.

Farmers, on the other hand, have welcomed this rainfall as it is expected to be beneficial for their agricultural activities. The timely and adequate rainfall will contribute to the replenishment of water resources and groundwater levels, thus aiding in better crop growth.

While the incessant rain brings benefits to some, it also poses challenges for commuters and daily wage workers who struggle with transportation disruptions and loss of livelihoods. The authorities have been requested to take appropriate steps to minimize the impact on these vulnerable sections of the population.

As the Northeast Monsoon continues its course, it is crucial for the authorities and residents to remain vigilant and prepared for any further developments. The Chennai Meteorological Department will continue to monitor the weather conditions closely and provide timely updates to ensure the safety and well-being of the people.
