The traffic at border checkpoints with Romania and Greece is intense, reported the Main Directorate of the Border Police (GDP) – Ministry of the Interior, on the department’s website, BTA reported.

The information is current as of 6 a.m. this morning.

On the border with Romania, the traffic is intense at the Kardam checkpoint and the Nikopol checkpoint at the exit for trucks.

Due to the major repair of the Bulgarian section of the Danube bridge near Ruse, a temporary organization of traffic has been introduced, with the traffic being carried out in one lane with a through mode and regulated by a traffic light system. In addition to the Ruse checkpoint, drivers in the region can also head to the Silistra, Kardam, Durankulak, Kaynardzha and Krushari checkpoints. The last two are open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. every day, and trucks are not allowed to pass through them.

Traffic is intense at the “Kulata” checkpoint on the border with Greece at the exit for trucks.

In connection with the significantly increased crossings of Romanian tourists traveling to and from Greece through the “Kulata” and “Makaza”, the State Police recommends the use of alternative checkpoints on the Bulgarian-Greek border, which are less busy and allow faster passage . Tourists traveling to resorts in the area of Thessaloniki, Kavala and the Halkidiki Peninsula can pass through the Ilinden border crossing as an alternative to the Tower. Tourists traveling to resorts in the area of Xanthi, Komotini and o. Thassos, can use the border crossing “Zlatograd” as an alternative to “Makaza”. For resorts in the area of Alexandroupolis, it is recommended to go through the “Captain Petko Voivoda” checkpoint. Only cars and minibuses are allowed to pass through the Makaza, Zlatograd and Ivaylovgrad border crossing points.

Traffic is normal at all border checkpoints on our borders with Serbia, Turkey and the Republic of North Macedonia.

On August 26 of this year at the Gueshevo border crossing, the implementation of the activities under the contract related to the construction of the EU Entry/Exit System began. The cabins for border checks of passing trucks will be dismantled and replaced with new ones. The traffic of passing trucks will be temporarily diverted through the lanes for passing cars. Certain difficulties are possible when crossing “Gueshevo”.
