Intense Wildfire Erupts in Agrieles Selinou Amid Strong Winds, Evacuations Underway

The small scattered hotspots and the winds blowing in gusts of up to 8 Beaufort are complicating the firefighting efforts for the blaze that broke out in Agrieles Selinou on Wednesday morning.

Firefighting forces from Kandano, Kampano, and Chania are on the scene, and a helicopter is also participating in the firefighting operation. Strong winds are blowing in the area, while the fire is near Livada and is heading towards Temenia. At this time, the villages of Agrieles and Livada are being evacuated.

As reported by Haniotika Nea, firefighting forces are continuously being reinforced, and currently, 88 firefighters, 3 ground teams, 28 vehicles, 3 helicopters, municipal water tankers, heavy machinery, and a volunteer team from EPOMEA are operating. In fact, forces from Agios Nikolaos and Heraklion are coming to assist in the firefighting in Chania.
