North American side Inter Miami, featuring Argentina’s Lionel Messi, will take part in the 2025 Club World Cup, FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced on Saturday.
“Because of their great performance this year, they deserve and will be in the 2025 Club World Cup,” Infantino said at Inter Miami’s Chase Stadium, shortly after the local club defeated the New England Revolution 6-2.
The FIFA president also said that the Miami team will play the first meeting of the new format of the competition at the Hard Rock Stadium, in Florida.
The expanded FIFA Club World Cup, which is scheduled for the summer of 2025 and will also include Benfica and FC Porto, had an open place and was responding to the invitation to a team from the United States as the organizing country.
Inter Miami was chosen by FIFA after an exceptional season for Messi, who scored 20 goals and 16 assists in 19 games, along with another 20 goals from Uruguayan striker Luis Suárez.

The first edition of the new FIFA Club World Cup will be played between June 15 and July 13, 2025, with the participation of 32 teams from five continents.
